Dec 16, 2004 -
This Week's Zone Most Frequently Asked Questions

If I do not get a position that I requested OUT OF the Zone, can I just be placed at any school?

NO! If you don't accept a position, or if none is offered to you (either because no position is available in your area of certification or because the open position was offered to someone else), you will remain at your current work location through the end of this school year. You will be guaranteed a transfer OUT OF the Zone for the 2005-2006 school year.

I haven't received a call yet for an interview to the schools I listed on my transfer application. When will I hear from someone?

Interviews began on Monday, Dec. 13. Principals are required to interview in seniority order for OPEN positions at their schools, by area of certification. If you have not yet been contacted, there is either no open position at this time, or you do not have enough seniority. Remember that principals can hire the first person they interview, or they can interview everyone on the list who is certified for that open position - therefore, you may still be contacted. You can also contact the school directly and request an interview.

Beginning on Jan. 6th, a joint committee (UTD and MDCPS) will begin placing teachers into open positions that still exist.

If I accept a Zone school position, am I agreeing to staying there for 3 years?

NO! Although the 39 schools will be in the Zone for 3 years, you as an employee can elect to transfer at the end of any school year.

If I missed the deadline, can I still apply to the Zone?

Yes, but not for transfer for this school year. Applications for transfer will be available in April with a May 2 deadline for transfers for next school year.

Do I have the right to decline an offer to transfer?

Yes.
