UTD and Frank McCourt,
winning combination at
3rd Annual Education Summit

The attendees of this year’s UTD Education Summit could not have been more pleased.

Retired public school teacher turned Pulitzer-prize winning author Frank McCourt was this year’s keynote speaker.  UTD President Karen Aronowitz introduced the renowned best-selling author to the more than 400 summit attendees.

McCourt shared stories of his childhood growing up in his native Ireland and of his years as a soldier and young man in America, until becoming teacher.  McCourt taught creative writing in New York public schools and only after his retirement, did he begin to write and publish his many books.

His first book, Angela’s Ashes, won him the Pulitzer Prize for biography and was made into a movie.  After dazzling the crowd for over 90 minutes, the audience was able to meet the author at the book signing that followed the event.
