Aronowitz: Value Added Model needs to value teachers more
UTD and MDCPS met on Thursday, February 14th to continue bargaining the impact of VAM scores in IPEGS, as well as the final evaluation cut scores. The bargaining session opened with UTD President and Chief Negotiator Karen Aronowitz presenting extensive evidence of the hard work and dedication of the teachers who work with the children of Miami-Dade County. The teachers efforts have resulted in the district being recognized nationally by winning the Broad Prize, increasing the NAEP scores, and increasing the graduation rates based on the US Department of Education Standards.
UTD believes the current cut scores do not recognize the high level of performance by teachers in our district compared to the statewide and national ranking.
The parties will consider the positions and discussions had during this session. The next bargaining session will be scheduled in March.
