UTD Proposes Salary Increases and Extra Pay for High-Performing Teachers

Next week, negotiators from United Teachers of Dade (UTD), the union that represents Miami-Dade educators, will sit across a table from MDCPS administrators and propose a new salary schedule that is different from anything passed across the table in contract talks of the past. The proposal is designed to restore wage losses teachers were forced to accept during the recession. And, perhaps most unusual, the teachers’ union has proposed a funding mechanism that raises cash for education by bringing tax cheaters to justice.

The union is proposing a two part salary agreement. Part one is a bridge proposal that moves teachers forward economically for this year, and part two is a radical and forward thinking proposal that will lead the nation into a new model for teacher compensation.
