Veterans’ Grove Ribbon Cutting
United Teachers of Dade was a proud sponsor of the Leadership Miami Team 6, Stand Up and Reach Miami, Veterans' Grove project. President Karen Aronowitz and Secretary/Treasurer Fed Ingram celebrated the Memorial Day Weekend by dedicating the beautiful Veterans’ Grove at Alice Wainwright Park to all the veterans in our community of the United States Armed Forces in honor of their service.
Guest speakers included: Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce President Barry Johnson, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman Penny Schaefer, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Cutler Bay Vice Mayor Ernie Sochrin and Retired Lieutenant Colonel Tony Colmenares, USMC, of the American Red Cross.
Through the efforts of Stand Up and Reach Miami, Veterans of All Wars that reside in Miami-Dade County will be provided with a green monument that commemorates their service and personal sacrifice to protect our nation, a tangible acknowledgement and symbol of the appreciation this community has for all of its Veterans. This space, which will be located at serene Alice Wainwright Park, will also serve as a place for positive reflection for those coping with the stress of reintegration to civilian life.
In addition to the grove, Stand Up and Reach Miami launched a campaign to raise local awareness of our Miami-Dade County Veterans.
